Scribblenauts Unlimited - Imaginative and fun action puzzle game

Scribblenauts Unlimited is an action puzzle game that was initially released on Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and has just been released worldwide on Windows although its still only available in certain regions at the moment. Scribblenauts Unlimited is only available in North America and Australia at the moment but a European launch is due in 2013.
Scribblenauts Unlimited is actually the fourth installment of the Scribblenauts puzzle series. The gameplay in Scribblenauts Unlimited is similar to previous versions. You play the role of Maxwell whose objective is to collect "Starites" (magical objects born out of the happiness of others) by using objects that you create but in Scribblenauts Unlimited, it's more adventure based than previous versions. The ultimate aim is to collect enough Starites to banish an ancient curse.
The fun thing about Scribblenauts Unlimited is that you are only limited by your imagination in solving puzzles. Need to train a dog to do trick to complete a level? Just invent a stick and hey presto, you have a stick to train your dog with. Need a flying bike to get to your destination? No problem, just invent one. From the very start, Scribblenauts Unlimited shows you how to play by entering objects and adjectives to create the objects you want. If you type wrongly, the game will make suggestions as to what you actually meant.
Scribblenauts Unlimited takes place in a large world that you can explore which is different to previous versions of the game where you chose the individual puzzle to explore. You can cross into areas with different themes and accept challenges from characters within the game. The main aim of Scribblenauts Unlimited is to solve multiple puzzles set by characters before you are awarded with a Starite. There are also smaller challenges within the adventure that reward you with Starite shards. If you collect ten of these shards, you can earn one Starites.
The most entertaining thing about Scribblenauts Unlimited is definitely the types of objects you can create. You can have a lot of fun just creating anything that springs to mind without even solving the puzzles. The graphics are well animated and the soundtrack is not bad either.
Scribblenauts Unlimited is a great original and fun game that's unlike any other puzzle game you've played before.

Sweet Home 3D is a sophisticated tool for creating your own interior designs.

Sweet Home 3D allows your imagination to run wild without you having to lift a finger or costing you a cent. Apart from being a very useful interior design application, it's also a hell of a lot of fun, allowing you to mix and match furniture with ease, take virtual walks around your creations, and indulge yourself in designs you'd probably never be able to do in real life.

Sweet Home 3D offers more than 50 different pieces of furniture, ranging from beds to lamps and desks tables, but you can import even more from the developer's website. To create your rooms, all you need to do is drag and drop elements into the grid view and you'll see them building up 3D in the viewing screen below. Once you've done this, use the virtual visit tool to get a 3D preview of what it looks like and talk a walk around.

The latest version adds a new level of realism to Sweet Home 3D. This includes a new ability to handle rounded walls, the possibility to store points of view, a new compass and even light and sun management to accurately show how your designs react under different conditions. They've also added a much needed auto recovery function if Sweet Home 3D crashes.

These are the basics and Sweet Home 3D is extremely easy to get to grips with. Unfortunately, the graphics on Sweet Home 3D are not great - many pieces of furniture look blocky, but its designed to give an idea of what an arrangement will look like rather than a perfect picture. You can take a photo of your finished design, which you can then send on to friends to view who won't need Sweet Home 3D to view it. The fact that it's based on Java shouldn't put you off either - it works very smoothly with virtually no delays in placing furniture or creating previews.

Sweet Home 3D is an excellent solution for all those that daydream about redesigning their home, or even for professionals that need a basic mock-up.

Google SketchUp 8.0.16846 - Powerful yet accessible 3D modeling software

There are few things that Google don't do well and this even extends to making 3D art accessible to the most inexperienced artist in the form of Google SketchUp.

Google SketchUp bucks the trend of expensive 3D modeling software such as 3DSMax and Cinema4D and presents a free, easy to use alternative with which you can even post your creations onto Google Earth for the world to see. The latest version has been integrated with Google Maps too so that geo-tagging your creations is easier than ever.

There's a refreshing lack of technical jargon in Google SketchUp and unfamiliar terms to beginners such as the 'Extrude' tool have been renamed to the more obvious 'Push/Pull' for example. There are plenty of helpful hints and guides throughout too helping you get to grips with 'snapping' when you draw rectangles, circles and other shapes. Google Sketchup intelligently predicts where you want endpoints to meet and snaps them shut for you, saving lots of time messing around.

SketchUp doesn't lack in functionality though despite its ease of use and includes all the usual collection of drawing and filling tools you'd expect, neatly accessible in the toolbar across the top of the screen. Instructor hints pop out on the right of the screen when it thinks you need them. Other options can be accessed via the menu system, or you can choose to place extra palettes on the workspace to save wading through menus. Of particular note is the 'Materials' palette, which contains over 100 different preset swatches, such as vegetation, metal and glass. The Shadow Settings palette is also worth keeping to hand, as it allows you to apply realistic shadows via simple sliders.

The real fun however is when you export your Google SketchUp drawings into Google Earth. You can send images of your 3D designs via email or upload them for free storage at Google's 3D Web Warehouse. Alternatively, you can geo-tag them in one-step using Google Maps which has now been integrated into Google Sketchup. You receive a snapshot when you add a geo-location to your model which now includes 3D terrain data plus color aerial imagery.

There are some problems with Google SketchUp however. Most annoying is when trying to create domed surfaces because of the cumbersome nature of the Extrude tool, although pushing and pulling straight lines is considerably easier. Being free, it also obviously lacks some of the advanced features of many of its heavyweight rivals.

Google SketchUp provides a refreshingly simple approach to 3D graphic design and modeling and is ideal for non experts in CAD technology.

Photo editing features

The most outstanding feature of this photo editor is its seamless integration with Windows Explorer, which means it adds a whole new command group to image file context menus. These commands enable you to launch Photo! Editor's main tools straight away, without having to open the program first.
As for the tools included in Photo! Editor, it's a pretty basic program. That said, Photo! Editor works perfectly fine for small retouching tasks such as optimizing colors, removing red eye or even clearing someone's skin of spots, wrinkles and other slight imperfections. Other tools included are a resampling/cropping utility, some really cool light effects and a caricature tool to apply a hilarious morphing effect to your photos.

Flawed browsing

The only drawback to Photo! Editor is that there's no way to browse the folder's contents using thumbnails. This means that if your photo file names are not descriptive enough, you'll have to click on them one by one just to find out which picture they correspond to.

Outdated look and features

Although Photo! Editor provides easy access to tools for fixing red eye, enhancing color, and even creating caractures, they still feel very basic. The interface is where the app falls flat, as the design is very dated, where as free apps like Picasa continue to evolve.

Overall

Photo! Editor is the perfect choice for those who are looking for a simple, lightweight and easy-to-use photo editor to fix their digital images.
